Potted Herb Favors

For almost a year I have been wrestling with favor ideas for my wedding. I want to give my guests something that they will be able to keep and use and remember our wedding for. From the beginning I had the idea of giving the gift of a bulb that the guest would then have to plant. But that idea was when my wedding was going to be in the fall. Now that I have an August wedding, what can I do? It just so happens that there are few, or no bulbs available in August, I suppose it is just a dry month for bulbs. So, next I started fooling around with the idea of giving flower seeds as favors, maybe I would wrap them in toile or put them in small glass bottles with cork stoppers. So, last summer I planted some flower seeds that I purchased, just to try out my idea. I had never planted flowers from seeds before. In no time the plants sprouted and grew and grew, but none of my plants ever flowered. How disappointed would my guests be if after taking the time to plant these itsy bitsy seeds they don't even flower? Plus how can I guarantee that my guests would even plant the seeds or bulb (as in the previous idea). I don't want to give a DIY favor. I don't want my guests to have to get a pot, dirt and plant something. That was when I decided that seeds are too much work and unreliable. Now what? Maybe I could give a plant, but the question was, what kind of plant and how could I still stay within my very small budget? All this is running through my head and I am thinking I want to give a plant that my guests can use and that is when I thought of giving herbs. Quickly I drew up a sketch of my potted herb idea, which you can see above. I am pretty sure this is the final idea. I am planning on planing a variety of herbs in small terracotta pots.... basil, sage, rosemary, parsley, mint.... as my guests are leaving they can choose the herb they wish to take with them. All they will have to do is water it and enjoy. Yay for another wedding planning aspect figured out.

Wedding Cupcakes

Anyone who knows me well knows that I do not like cake. I don't really know what it is about cake that I dislike, but I like cupcakes. For this reason I think having cupcakes in place of a traditional wedding cake is a great idea. Originally I was thinking of having a cake all layered with carrot cake and cheese cake, those being the only two cakes I like. However, this is so much easier. I can have some chocolate, some vanilla and some red velvet cupcakes. Yay & Yum.

My Bridesmaids

My beautiful bridesmaids, Cecilia Rivera & Cheryl Megahed will accompany me while wearing a lovely a-line, strapless fern dress as shown to the left. I am so in love with this dress that I am still seriously considering purchasing one for myself. Not only is the dress simply beautiful, it is made out of polished cotton for a soft and casual summer feel. However, in my opinion, the best part about the dress is that it has pockets!!!! Yay for pockets in dresses!

Menu Ideas

Yesterday Jeremy and I met with a potential caterer for the wedding. Today, I am sitting here, trying to put together a menu to email to the caterer. Uggh. There are just too many options. Here is what I have created, however it will most likely change 10 times in the next 6 months.

Tomato Bruchetta
Apple Smoked Bacon Wrapped Scallops
Pear & Roquefort Phyllo
Mushrooms stuffed with Sausage & Spinach

Entrees

Seven Hour Roasted Leg of Lamb (or) Flank Steak with Rosemary Jus Lie

Cupcake Wedding Tower (in place of a cake)

SAVE THE DATE

Here are the "Save the Date" cards. Total cost = $12.00 for 55 cards. The photograph was from our engagement photo session. I then designed the card in illustrator based on some other "save the date" cards I viewed online. Next, I submitted the image to ophoto, and purchased one 4x6 print in matte. After receiving the print, I liked it so I ordered 55 prints. The final "save the date" cards are basically just 4x6 photos and I am thinking to make them thicker and more impressive, I may add a cardstock background to them before mailing.

Wedding Centerpieces

Here is a photograph of the centerpieces for my August wedding. I am very proud to say that the total cost of each completed centerpiece was $14. The berry wreaths were ordered from an ABC catalog for $4 each and the 3-wick candles were ordered from another catalog for $10 each. :) Yay.
