BIRTH!

Birth: The Surprising History of How We Are Born Birth: The Surprising History of How We Are Born by Tina Cassidy

My review

rating: 5 of 5 stars
Excellent book. Tina Cassidy explores the history of birth from doctor's dirty hands, to 6 women per bed, to using Chloroform to sedate expectant mothers. While reading, I was surprised that the human race was able to succeed as a life form. The pain, experimentation, drugs and violence some women faced when giving birth is a part of our history (our, meaning the history of women) that I knew little about. Cassidy also explores birthing techniques such as water birth, lamaze, meditation and planned cesareans (which can be scheduled around ones lifestyle) and gives the positive and negative aspects of each.
