Down the West Side Highway

I don't really know how it started, I guess it was Rich who lit Jeremy's fire. We were in New Hampshire visiting our dear friend Rich and we had brought our bikes up with us. Rich took us for a ride and then later in the day took Jeremy on an intense off road mountain biking adventure. I think that did it. Jeremy was hooked. When Jeremy got home he put his weight loss on the fast track and lost 40lbs. He bought himself a sweet road bike, petals, clip shoes, glasses, helmet, shorts, jersey, gloves, etc. He started out biking with me, 16 or so miles down the West Side Highway bike path. Mind you, this is only 3 or 4 weeks ago. It was my first time too, I was shocked when we got home and jeremy told me that I had ridden 15 miles. Since then, I have pushed myself to go further down the West Side on my Trek Hybrid, maybe a mile or two further, while Jeremy has pushed himself harder and further, capping out at 30 miles last Sunday. Some mornings he wakes up at 6am to bike 10 miles before work, climbing steep hills and trying to beat his current fastest speed of 20 miles per hour. Right now, I am not able to do the same rides as Jeremy because I do not own a road bike, but I am planning that by next October I will not only own a great racing bike, but I will also be ready to participate in the October NYC Race. Cycling is a great sport, although expensive, it is an amazing excuse to get outside.
